The Prove is Aproofed!
about 1 year ago – Sat, Mar 04, 2023 at 05:34:57 PM

The hardcopy proof came in from the printer last week and it looks AMAZING! I spent a few days pouring over all the persnickety details and these cards are lookin' scrumptious!

I couldn't help sharing some of the excitement and put together an unboxing video for the hardcopy proof. Check it out if you're so inclined!

I gave the printer the green-light to proceed with the print run which is now underway!

You ever notice it's difficult to write a sentence in a Kickstarter update that doesn't end with an exclamation point? Cause I sure have!!!

Ya boi goofed

Hi friends!

I got another quick update for y'all's. This time though I bring news of how I beefed it a little bit!

One of the reasons I decided on the printing company I'm using (Print Ninja for those curious) was that their printing would be done in the US which I hoped would cut down on freight time. Unfortunately I missed a bit of info stating that only orders of less than 500 units are printed in the US while larger orders are printed in China.

Now there's still hope that the games will be delivered this April which was my goal. But now it's going to be a more of a nail-biter than I had hoped!

Almost done with the personalized items:

I heard back from almost everyone I sent messages about what name to use for custom "genius certificate" cards. I'm going to tastefully badger those who haven't replied yet but these items will be printed separately from the main game's print run, so the custom items aren't holding things up at all.

Well that's all the "T" I have to spill for the moment. I'll try and scrounge up something more exciting for the next update!

Proverbial Proof in the Metaphorical Pudding
over 1 year ago – Mon, Jan 16, 2023 at 06:02:24 PM

In this case, "the pudding" is the mail, and "the proof" is... well, that's still a proof.  Alright, listen, If there was a less complicated way to explain that the hardcopy proof of the final game is in the mail, I would have said it!

Over the holidays I was able to put the finishing touches on the card designs and prepare all the files for the printer. The digital proofing process all went swimmingly and now the hardcopy proof is on it's way.

Next step on the to-do list is re-creating some of the "genius lessons" that unlock throughout the game with some higher quality video and a punched up script.  There's a new gag at the end that I'm really excited to film :)

Also, please keep an eye out for Kickstarter messages. In the next few days I'm going to slide into the DM's of all the backers receiving personalized rewards in their pledge to ask what name or pseudonym you'd like to use.

That's it. Consider yourself updated!

Five-hundred custom enamel pins!

Enamel pin seen here in stunning relief.

Big shout-out to the First Play: LA playtesting group on Meetup. I took some tweaked puzzles out for a test-drive this past weekend.  Got some great notes and I'm feeling really good about locking in the print run with some finishing touches.

And double shout-out to Matt (pictured below) who is a backer and came out to the playtest event!

I actually didn't get Matt's last name, and there are 5 people named Matt who backed the game, so I'm actually sure which Matt I met.

That's it for this update! By the next one I'll hopefully have pulled the trigger on the whole print run!

p.s. I know it's going to drive you crazy if I don't explain it: That cat wearing rainbow-unicorn sunglasses is my mousepad.

Quick lil update

Hi friends!

Nothing juicy to report just yet. Since our last thrilling update I received the last piece of outsourced art that I was waiting on. It's sufficiently dope as all hell! I also finalized the order for the enamel pins so those are being produced as we speak! I'm hoping that for the next update I'll have them in hand to showcase their splendor.

The next step is preparing all the cards to the printer's specifications, which is pretty simple but mega-tedious. And then I just have to be a big, brave, boy and order the full print run, which is pretty scary but mega-exciting 😁

"Hey, Spencer? Are there any other cool puzzle game you played recently?"

I'm glad you asked! I had the absolute pleasure of playing Search for a Superhero from The Mystery League. It was so cool! Charming as heck, loaded with puzzles, roughly one and a half butt-tons of clever ah-hah's. It's meant to be run as an event for 10-500 people. And the very end of the event is, as the kids say, a real hoot!

"So you're saying if I have the chance to play this game, and I don't do it, I'm a big, stupid, idiot?"

Well... those are your words, not mine. You know what, I should probably wrap up this update before things start to get silly.
